Five-day olfactory journey to Bulgaria

Raw materials come from all corners of the world: Osmanthus from China, Vanilla from Madagascar, Patchouli from Indonesia, and Oud from Bangladesh. But did you know that 50% of the worldwide Rose Oil supplies come from Bulgaria? Or that in recent years, Bulgaria has overtaken France to become the world leader in lavender oil production?

Join our scent expedition and explore what fragrances & flavours Bulgaria has to offer. 

From field trips and local producers to full-day perfume-making classes, this olfactory tour is ideal for those wanting to gain advanced knowledge in a short time.

We will focus on Bulgaria's primary perfume plants: rose, tobacco, and lavender, but we will also explore materials from other locally produced fragrant plants like helichrysum, linden, calendula, clary sage, rose geranium, juniper berry, rosemary, lemon balm and chamomile.

The Experience

An olfactory journey designed to elevate your understanding of fragrance creation.

Classes will cover natural and synthetic perfume ingredients, accord-building, perfume creation and other essential information for being an independent perfumer. 

Daily perfume-making activities with Sarah McCartney of 4160 Tuesdays - through hands-on and “nose-on” practices, participants will get familiar with different aromatic materials and learn how to build a fragrant composition. All necessary materials and equipment for perfume-making will be provided.

Field trip: full-day visit to a lavender field and a local distillery combined with a culinary experience of tasting local food and wines.

Locally produced perfume materials like rose oil, rose absolute, rose CO2, tobacco absolute, helichrysum oil, lavender oil, lavender absolute, clary sage absolute, linden absolute, geranium oil, juniper berry CO2, rosemary oil, chamomile oil and lemon balm available to test and use in perfume formulations, as well as to purchase at preferential prices.

Lemon Balm (Melissa Officinalis L.): Lemon Balm Essential Oil
